All you need for this sunflower drawing is a decent sharp pencil and paper.
How to Draw Sunflowers Step 1 Draw a Small Circle for the Sunflower’s Centre
First up you are going to draw a small circle in the middle of your page. This is the centre of the sunflower, and we will add more detail to it later. See the picture or video to help.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 2 Draw a Larger Circle Around the First One
Now all you need to do to complete the ‘eye’ of the sunflower is to draw a large circle around the first small one. It will look more realistic if you make it quite a rough, sketchy circle like you can see in the picture below.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 3 Draw in the First Layer of Petals
At this point you can draw in the first layer of petals all around the outside of the ‘eye,’ of the sunflower. Think of your petals as being shaped like a stretched out triangle with a slight curve in the lines.
It will make your drawing more realistic if one or two of your petals droop or point in a slightly different direction, but overall it’s best to try and keep your petals the same size and shape. Check out the picture beneath to help.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 4 Draw in the Second Layer Behind the First
You can now go ahead and draw in a second layer of petals on your sunflower, between the petals on your first layer. This second layer will look like it is behind the first layer. See the picture to help.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 5 Add more Detail to the Sunflower’s Eye
Now we are going to fill in more detail to the two circles the centre of the sunflower. As you can see in the video the middle of a sunflower is roughly textured and almost ‘furry.’ Starting with the smaller circle at the centre you can draw in a few dots, as shown in the picture.
You can now move on to the larger circle and draw in a number of small semi-circles to show the furry texture of the sunflower. You will need quite a few here. Check out the picture to help you.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 6 Draw Lines Inside the Petals
At this point we are going to add in some extra details to your petals. You can do this by adding in around 3-4 short vertical lines at the base of your petals as shown in the picture.

How to Draw Sunflowers Step 7 Draw the Sunflower’s Stem
Now it’s time to add the stem of the flower. It’s just a simple matter of drawing two vertical lines close together going down from the bottom of the sunflower.
You may want to add in a couple of thin stems with leaves on them coming out from the main stem, like we have done, if you like. It’s entirely up to you. Again check out the picture or the video to help.

Now you can to shade or colour in your sunflower. You may want to draw over the outline in pen and use pastels like we have done.
Think of where the light source will be in your picture and shade in the brighter points and shadows on your sunflower accordingly.
All done! Now you can draw a sunflower!
