As usual all you will need for this is a decent pencil, a rubber and good paper, not to mention this cloud drawing tutorial. Colours are optional as you may want to colour or shade in at the end.

Remember to start off your drawing with nice light lines which you can go over in darker lines later. It’s always easier to rub out lighter lines later on!

Cloud Drawing Step 1 Draw the Top of the Cloud

Start off by drawing an upside down semi-circle as shown in the picture. You will want to have it near the top of your page to leave you enough room to stretch your cloud out to the right and left, as well as fit in the base of your cloud further down the page.

Cloud Drawing Step 1

Cloud Drawing Step 2 Complete the Left Side of the Cloud’s Outline

Draw the outline of the left part of the cloud using more semi-circular shapes joined together, as shown in the picture. It will look more ‘cloud-like’ if the semi-circles are different sizes and not all the same. Clouds are never uniform – they taken on random patterns.

The two sides of the cloud will look more realistic if they are not even so don’t worry about being too precise here.

Cloud Drawing Step 2

Cloud Drawing Step 3 Finish the Right Side of the Cloud’s Outline

Now do the same on the other side, and don’t worry if your right side is longer or shorter than the other side, enjoy the randomness!

Cloud Drawing Step 3

Cloud Drawing Step 4 Draw in the Base of the Cloud

Now it’s time to draw the base of the cloud which will be a little flatter and longer than the top and sides. See the picture of video to help you.

Cloud Drawing Step 4

Cloud Drawing Step 5 Fill in More Detail on The Inside of the Cloud

Draw in some more semi-circles inside the cloud to make it seem more wispy and puffy. You can follow the picture or have the wisps go in a different direction to make your cloud more unique. Have fun with it!

Cloud Drawing Step 6 Draw Over Your Outline with Bolder Lines

Now you can go over your outline and the middle of your cloud in bolder lines or with a marker or dark colouring pencil if you want. Now you are ready for your final step!

Cloud Drawing Step 7 Shade or Colour in Your Cloud

All you have to do now is colour or shade in your cloud. Obviously clouds are generally white, and rain clouds are grey. However you can try a light blue or even yellow in places to show the sun shining through.

It’s always good practice to think of where the light source is coming from so that you can have lighter and darker patches on your cloud. Obviously if the light is coming from the left the right side of your cloud will be shadier.
