Turkeys have become a traditional symbol at Christmas as well as Thanksgiving in N.America (which is where the bird is native to).

We have chosen to do a pretty easy drawing version for beginners, but there are some challenges in getting the lines correct and making sure your drawing looks symmetrical and well-shaped.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 1 Start With the Head of the Turkey

Draw a small circle for the bird’s head at the top of your page. Compared to the turkey’s large body and fan-like tail the head is fairly small. Check the picture or the time lapse video to help.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 2 Draw the Eye of the Turkey

You can now move on to the oval shaped eye in the top left section of the bird’s head. You can add in a dark pupil as well as shown in the picture and video. You will only need one eye because your bird is standing side on.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 3 Draw the Neck and Beak of Your Turkey

At this point you can go ahead and draw the bird’s neck. Turkeys have a large, prominent bright red neck which is very distinctive.

We have opted for a trapezium like shape with a curvy line to show the feathers at the bottom of the neck.

The Turkey has quite a long beak which points downwards. Draw in a long stretched out triangle shape coming from the side of the head, as the picture shows. Again check out the picture and video to help.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 4 Move On to the Bird’s Beak

The Turkey has quite a long beak which points downwards. Draw in a long stretched out triangle shape coming from the side of the head, as the picture shows.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 5 Draw the Wattle Over the Bird’s Beak

One of the more unusual aspects of our Turkey is its distinctive red wattle. You can draw this as a teardrop shape coming from the top of the beak near the side of the bird’s head.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 6 Draw the Turkey’s Body

Now you can draw in the main part of the bird’s body as a large oval shape. Check out the picture and video if you get stuck.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 7 Draw the Tail in a Fan Shape

Turkeys have a very attractive black fan-shaped which can spread out at times to make the bird look bigger than it is. Check the picture to help you get this right.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 8 Draw One Wing

Again because our turkey is side on we only need to draw one wing. A turkey’s wing often appears puffed up and quite fluffy, so we are going to use wavy lines here.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 9 Draw in the Two Feet

Now you can draw in two legs with claws as shown in the picture. Turkeys have powerful legs which help them run fast.

Turkey Drawing Easy Guide Step 10 Colour it In!

Use felt-tips, colouring pencils or even pastels to colour in your turkey. The head of the turkey is blue, the legs are red, the feathers are black and the wattle is bright red but you can play around with the colours as you like!

Well done your Turkey Drawing is complete!
