Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 1 Begin With an Oval Shape

We are going to draw an oval (or egg shape on its side) at the top of the page. This is the centre of your rose petal.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 1

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 2 Draw a Spiral Shaped like a ‘9’ Inside

This easy step involves drawing a spiral shape inside your oval much like the number 9, as shown in the picture and video. You could also draw it the other way round as a ‘6’ shape it’s really up to you.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 2

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 3 Draw a Heart-Shaped Petal Around Your Oval

Now you can draw a lovely heart-shaped petal around your oval-shaped central petal. Try to make it look as symmetrical as possible so that your rose drawing is as pleasing to the eye as possible. Check the picture to help.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 3

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 4 Draw a Loose ’S’ Shape on The Right Hand Side

At this point you can draw a stretched out ’S’ shape coming the right hand side of your heart and finishing in a point over on the left hand side. Again check the picture and video to help.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 4 & 5

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 5 Draw the Fold of the Blossom on the Left Side

Now you can add the fold of the blossom on the left hand side. All you have to do is draw one curvy line tracing it round in line with the curve of your heart shape until it meets the line of your ’S’ shape, as shown in the picture and video.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 6 Draw a ‘U’ Shape to Complete the Rose Bud

Starting from the left you can draw the outline of ‘U’ shape (or the bottom half of an oval shape) right round to meet the blossom on the right hand side. If you want to draw in two vertical lines on either side of your first oval shape, you can add those in now.

You have now completed the bud of the rose. Well done!

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 6

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 7 Draw the Sepals Under the Bud

A rose has little green leaves (called sepals) at the top of its stem. These are like little triangles and you can draw 3 (or more if you wish) just underneath the bottom of your rose bud.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 7

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 8 Draw the Stem of Your Rose

It’s time to draw the stem of your rose. You can draw two straight parallel vertical lines for this, as shown in the picture and video. You can decide how long or short you want your stem to be.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 8

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 9 Add in Some Thorns and Leaves

It’s really up to you how many thorns or leaves you want to add to your stem, but it will depend on how long you have made your stem. A couple of leaves and thorns is enough for us here.

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 9

Rose Drawing Easy Guide Step 10 Colour it in!

Now you can colour in your rose. The most obvious colour is red, but we have opted for yellow here, just to avoid being too conventional! You can use a mix of light and darker greens for the stem, sepals and thorns if you like.
