Drawing guns is important in many art contexts such as manga, anime, graphic design or really cartoons of any kind. Whether you are drawing a cowboy or a futuristic robot, hero or villain, drawing a gun skilfully will really make your whole drawing so much more impactful. This is a fairly simple gun drawing but as ever getting it right will depend on attention to detail and perseverance.
All you will need for this is a pencil and paper.
Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 1 – Draw a Long Thin Rectangle for the Gun’s Body
Start off by drawing a long thin rectangle in the middle of your blank page. This is the main body of your gun. See the picture or video to help guide you.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 2 – Draw a Long Thin Rectangle for the Gun’s Handle
We are going to have our gun aiming to the right, but of course you could do it the other way round just as easily. Now you can draw a second rectangle for the butt or handle of the gun. See the picture below.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 3 – Draw the Trigger Guard and Trigger of the Gun
This step involves drawing the trigger and its guard where the main body of the gun meets the handle of the gun. Check out the picture to help.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 4 – Draw the Hammer at the Back of the Gun
Draw in the hammer as shown in the picture. Don’t worry about the initial guidelines, we will rub them out soon.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 5 – Draw in the Sights of the Gun
Simply draw in the front sight, and the rear site of the gun as shown.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 6 – Divide the Main Body in Two
Now you are going to divide the main body of the gun (the first rectangle you drew) in two as the picture shows.

Drawing of Gun Step 7 – Rub Out the Guidelines and Round the Edges of the Gun
In this step you are going to rub out the initial guidelines as in the picture, and then draw around the whole outline of the gun making the edges rounded instead of sharp.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 8 – Draw the Grip onto the Handle of the Gun
Of course, not all guns have grips as such but we are going to have a grip on our handle, with two little screws to hold it in place at the top of the grip and at the bottom, as shown.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 9 – Add in the Safety Catch’s Switcher Above the Grip
This step involves drawing a series of vertical lines to make a rectangle above the grip of the gun to make the switcher of your safety catch. The last line should be parallel with the rear sight at the butt of the gun.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 10 – Draw The Barrel of the Gun
At the end of the gun you can draw in the opening of the barrel of the gun. It will look like a small rectangle facing downwards, as shown in the picture.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 11 – Draw in the Slide Stop and the Disassembly Lever
On the main body of the gun, just above the trigger you can draw in the slide stop and the disassembly lever, as shown in the picture.

Drawing of Gun – How to Draw a Gun Step 12 – Draw the Magazine Release Behind the Trigger
The last step in your gun drawing is to draw the magazine release behind the trigger.

Now all you need to do is add the finishing touches in terms of shading and lighting. Think about where the light source in your picture would be coming from. We are going to think about the light coming from above the gun and to the right. This helps us to shade in the parts of the gun that would be in shadow.
